Review Summary:

Very powerful engine that can handle various medium to heavy tasks, at a medium price range.

The Makita MAC5200 Big Bore 3.0 HP Air Compressor is a must have if you have big jobs to get done. Fully packed with power, this compressor can run two framing nailers or a wide range of air tools. With the air flow of 6.5 SCFM at 90 PSI, the Makita has enough air power to fulfill every need of yours. With a 3.0 HP, 3420 RPM, oil-lubricated motor, I found that the Makita MAC5200 air compressor had the toughness I needed for the jobs I needed to get done. Compared with other compressors the price found at Amazom.com can’t be beaten.

Durable and Compact

The Makita MAC5200 Air Compressor has a folding handle which allows it to be conveniently put into my truck or stored under the workbench. I found the built-in storage compartment handy to keep all the attachments organized and kept in one place. Also, the air hose wrap stores 50 feet of 3/8 air hose when the handle is in its upright position. It is very tough and durable. I recommend it if you need a compressor that packs a bang for its buck.

The powerful 3.0 HP Motor

The Makita MAC5200 uses a 3.0 HP, 3420 RPM motor that has a larger bore and bigger stroke than most of its size. I found that this unit has a motor that has a larger piston that when traveling the longer distance, it delivers a greater output than other larger compressors. When it comes to size, the machine is smaller and comes with wheels so I can maneuver it easily. I needed a compressor that could be transported easily, was small enough not to hog all the room and one that could dominate the work site with power. The Makita MAC5200 was exactly I needed.

Makita MAC5200 Customer Reviews

Overall the Makita MAC5200 receives positive reviews. On Amazon, at the time of this writing, it is rated 4.2 out of 5 stars, quoting an affordable price that is hard to beat. Reviewers noted that it was a fine product that catches up quickly and was soundly made. They also stated that it recovers very quickly. There are, however, a few negative reviews. It is noted that the tires, which are injected molded plastic can give out easily. Anyway, it is an easy fix if you go to the local hardware store and replace them with rubber style tires. You should also note that if you use a thinner extension cord it can trip not only a 15 AMP breaker, but it may even trip its breaker.

Conclusion

The Makita MAC5200 has the ability to run a number of tools with ease. For the price found on Amazon.com, you really can’t beat it. I have used double tank units in the past, but this single tank compressor can get the job done just as well. I like that the handle folds down and stores easily. The machine could be noisy at times, but it goes with very great power that suits your wide range of needs. I highly recommend the Makita MAC5200 for your job site or tool shop. Of note, it also comes with a one-year warranty which is a plus for any handyman.
